What are some problems faced by old people in this society ?

In our society , old people faced difficulties such as being neglected by their children , abuse that can lead to depression , unemployment and also an easy target for robberies . Elderly nowdays are often being neglected by their own children as some adults think that they are a nuisance at home , thus their children will place them in nursing homes to get excellent care and attention for them . Besides the elderly being a nuisance at home , adults think that taking care of the elderly are difficult , so the best way to get away from their responsibilities is to place them in nursing homes . However , not all nursing homes can provide excellent care for the elderly , often understaffed with underpaid and poorly trained employees , some nursing homes may endanger the lives of their patients . Its unfair for the elderly who are being placed in nursing homes , some even miss their children or grandchildren which can lead to depression .

I encountered a website stating that most elderly face clinical depression . The likely reason for having depression is the effects of multiple illnesses and the medicine they use to treat the elderly . Most common elderly face depression as they loss their social support systems due to death of their spouse or siblings , retirement , or relocation of residence . Depression in elderly tends to last longer and that could lead them to various illnesses such as cardiac diseases or even death as their health deteriotes , some even could lead to suicide .

The elderly are having a tough time finding employment because companies would rather hire younger workers who are more efficient then the elderly who are weak and slow . More senior citizens want to continue work these days with increasing life expectancy over the years so they could enjoy certain privileges as the society has improved medical services , but for some , they need to earn extra allowance as their savings are not enough to support their livelihood .

Besides being neglected , abused , threatened , elderly may suffer physically and emotionally , so we need to help them whenever they are in need .
